Content delivery

A key process in the whole CMS setup is the delivery of the content to the locations that serve your content to the public and visa versa. This process called publishing or deploying or delivering content is different per type of CMS. Some CMS system don't have any process in place. They just present the content because the CMS is the website. Other more complex systems have a complete setup of multiple servers that is capable of delivering content on a global scale. The following type of deployments can be specified:

  • File to File
  • File to database
  • Database to database
  • Database to File
File in this context can be any type of file, asset, content or digital item. For instance text, pdf, image, script, video etc. We specify the following types of content delivery:
  • Internal delivery
  • . This is mostly used by small to medium size CMS systems where the website is the CMS. Files and database cntent are handled.
  • Two server setup
  • This is used by systems where the CMS is seperated from the website server.
  • Mid range setup
  • This is used by mid size to large systsem and will contain multiple servers of different types.
  • Enterprise setup
  • The more complexer setups have multiple servers in a globally orientated setup. This can go to 40-50 servers in a maximum setup. These systems are very complex to setup but can take a lot of hasle away from the publishing or release process. Publishing to multiple targets is also called Multichannel Publishing.
